I was not surprised to read David Cameron's comments that he thinks there are not enough women in his Cabinet or big companies. It's another populist notion which rings true with his 'modernising' image. However, I think the facts are very different, with most of those I speak to saying they are fed up with political correctness in all its forms. Yes, women should serve on boards and in the Commons, but, like anyone else, only if they are up to the job. To promote women in business or politics just because of their sex is patronising, quite apart from anything else, and will rightly lead to resentment and ultimately failure. Let's give the top jobs to those who can do it, whatever their sex, sexuality, colour or creed.
