Richard Drax, MP for South Dorset, today warmly welcomed confirmation that a new Enterprise Zone is to be created at Dorset Green Technology Park, near Wool.
The Enterprise Zone, announced as part of the Chancellor’s Comprehensive Spending Review and Autumn Statement, is part of the government’s plan to transfer responsibility for creating growth to local areas.
Managed by Local Enterprise Partnerships, these zones provide incentives to businesses to set up and for local authorities to reinvest in local economics, driving growth and supporting job creation in the regions. Enterprise Zones have supported over 15,000 jobs and leveraged £2 billion in private investment nationally.
“This will bring great benefits to South Dorset and indeed, to Dorset as a whole,” says Richard. “My understanding is that businesses relocating to the Zone will receive a five year business rate holiday, access to superfast broadband and streamlined planning permission.”
“In addition, the Zone is allowed to keep and spend any business rates generated by new development to further bolster the site.”
“This, in conjunction with the new support for apprenticeships announced today, will bring thousands of new, local jobs and skilled young people to the area.”
“My thanks to the Dorset Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) and Purbeck District Council, both of which supported the application.”
“I would also like to thank the Chancellor, who today described Dorset as a ‘fantastic county’. It is, and this news will make it even better.”
