Richard Drax, MP for South Dorset, today lent his support to Dorset County Hospital’s new digital mammography appeal.
The appeal aims to raise half a million pounds for the new equipment, for which the hospital has a pressing need.
Dorset County Hospital is asking everyone who has been treated over the last three years to donate £1 to the appeal. This would enable them to have the machine installed and operational by April.
“This is such an important appeal,” says Richard Drax, “Early detection and intervention makes all the difference in treating breast cancer successfully. “
“I am happy to lend my support and would urge everyone else to do so too.”
The equipment will take diagnostic imaging for breast cancer from film and chemicals to digital. The benefits are faster diagnosis, more accurate detection and the ability to treat greater numbers.
Currently, one in eight women will develop breast cancer, of whom one in four will die of the disease. Three hundred men a year also develop breast cancer in the UK.
Those wishing to donate can download the form from www.boostdch.co.uk and drop it, with £1 into the bank or building society. Or they can put a pound into one of the collection points at the Hospital, supermarkets and other venues around the county.
