Dear Colleague,
Today the Government has laid a Command Paper providing Parliament and the public with further information on what will change if we leave the European Union without a deal, and what the Government is doing to prepare.
It is the Government’s top priority, and principal focus of my job, to prepare comprehensively for Brexit. While we would prefer to leave with a deal and will work to the final hour to achieve one, we are prepared to leave without a deal in order to respect and honour the 2016 referendum result.
As such, significant preparations are underway and have been for the last three years.Preparations have accelerated and intensified under the Prime Minister’s leadership. This report provides a summary of our preparations for leaving the EU without a deal covering legislation, regulation and systems. It also outlines what businesses and citizens must do to get ready for Brexit.
The report also sets out in detail the actions taken by the Government and the further steps taken since 24 July in relation to: borders; citizens; data protection; energy and the environment; services; industry; public services and local authorities; Northern Ireland; the devolved administrations, Crown Dependencies and Overseas Territories; and security.
With every good wish,
Rt Hon Michael Gove MP
