Richard Drax, MP for South Dorset, today warmly welcomed the government approval for the planned broadband upgrade for Dorset.
The local superfast broadband plan, known as ‘Connecting Dorset Fast,’ will affect 90 per cent of Dorset by April 2015. Local councils have match funded the £10 million given by the government to the Dorset Local Enterprise Partnership, the architects of the plan.
“This is great news for South Dorset,” says Drax, “We have struggled for far too long with inadequate internet connectivity. Every time I meet with local business leaders they point to a lack of infrastructure, like broadband, as a severe drawback to operating in rural areas. “
“Anything which helps our local business community and our wider agenda for growth must be welcomed with open arms.”
The ground work for the new, superfast broadband is expected to start in early 2013.
