On a dark morning, I fell out of bed, clambered into my motorcycle gear and headed to Swanage. Dawn was touching the sky as I arrived at the delivery office to thank the postmen for all their hard work. Like their Weymouth colleagues, they were disappearing under a pile of parcels, mostly from Amazon. Again, I met a wonderful bunch of posties, who deliver in all conditions day in, day out. Each round can take upto five hours and parts of Swanage are very hilly. Then, I popped into the lifeboat station and found two crew members, who I thanked for their calm professionalism and their willingness to put their lives on the line should they need to. Across to Weymouth next to wish Geoff and Pam Peters a Happy Christmas. Geoff leads the Coastwatch team on Portland Bill and a more charming group of people you will not meet. Sadly, Geoff and Pam were out, so I left a small present with their neighbour. On then to Portland where I surprised the lovely Peggy West and her family. She kindly gave me a cuppa, before I drove down to the Bill to visit the Coastwatch Station itself. Back for a well-needed bacon-butty at Miss Piggies where I popped into the island volunteers who do such a fantastic job looking after the lonely elderly, many of whom have lost wifes or husbands. Time to head to Poole in the afternoon for a spot of shopping. A little time to myself.
