The sun continues to shine, but rain and colder weather expected tomorrow. Farmers need rain, desperately. There was still a lot to do following last weekend's chaos at both Durdle Door and Lulworth Cove. Many conversations are going on behind the scenes and MPs and council meet on Friday for our weekly conference call to hopefully agree a plan. Being paired, I was able to cope with two personal sadnesses today, but c'est la vie. The Commons is beginning to go back, although restrictions on numbers in the Chamber disrupt the flow of business. At 1400 members of the Defence Select Committee dialled in for another fascinating session on the future of 5G and its implications for us and of course Huawei. We heard evidence from Senator Tom Cotton, Brigadier General Robert Spalding (Ret'd), Senior Fellow, Hudson Institute, and Mike Rogers, Chairman of 5G Action Now. The session lasted for more than two hours and can be seen and read on Hansard. I can paraphrase the afternoon by saying that each of them warned the UK of the danger of allowing Huawei to install 5G here. Meanwhile, Public Health England said in a report that people from ethnic minorities are at a higher risk of dying from coronavirus. It shows that age remains the most significant risk factor, while being male is another. The impact of Covid-19 is also "disproportionate" for other Asian, Caribbean and black ethnicities. But it remains unclear why. The health secretary said the "troubling" report was "timely" because "right across the world people are angry about racial injustice". He was no doubt commenting on the on-going riots and looting in some US cities. President Trump raised the temperature by threatening to send in the military.
