The horrific stabbing incident in Reading over the weekend has shocked many. Khairi Saadallah, 25, is accused of killing three people during a knife attack. He'd been released early from prison this month for minor, non-terrorist offences. Tonight, tributes were paid to a "wonderfully talented and inspirational" teacher who was one of those killed. James Furlong, 36, head of history at The Holt School in Wokingham, was described as "a very kind and gentle man" with "a real sense of duty". Boris Johnson said he was "appalled and sickened" by the attack and promised action "if there are lessons that we need to learn". Metropolitan Police Assistant Commissioner Neil Basu described the attack as an "atrocity" and thanked the "unarmed and incredibly brave" officers who attended the scene. My thoughts and condolences extend to the family and friends of those killed and injured. The hatred that must exist to incite this sort of behaviour is appalling. In COVID news, the 2 metre distancing rule is expected to be reduced to one this week. Health Minister Matt Hancock said the distance could be lowered with "mitigations" to cut the risk of transmission. Labour said it would support a change to one metre "under certain circumstances".
