A busy morning and then to London for another week of politics. We had an interesting Urgent Question(UQ) from Labour on knife crime, which I attended. There is genuine concern on both sides of the House about this appalling rise in the use of knives, many of them easily obtainable on the internet. The Speaker went for the Home Secretary at the start of the session, saying he can appear in the papers and on TV, but not in the Chamber where he should be. No doubt that will reach Mr Javid's ear. Instead, the parliamentary under secretary of state stood in and made a good job of it. I was called to ask a question and raised my long-standing concern that we need more police officers. I also challenged the Labour MP whose UQ it was because he'd blamed everyone he could think of for this spate in knife crime except the parents. Where on earth are they? This is where there is a serious breakdown in our social fabric, but everyone seems keen to avoid saying so. Back to the office and then I had to attend some delegated legislation in preparation for Brexit.
