Rain, rain and more rain, and just when farmers are bringing in the harvest. So, I abandoned the idea of motorbiking to Weymouth and instead resorted to car. First stop was a wonderful service for those suffering from dementia. Tricuro Southill Plus is located at 137 Radipole Lane and is run by Mel England, whose husband is a postie. In fact, it's due to meeting him that I learnt about Mel's extraordinary work. Tricuro is a private company, with its services being paid for by both of Dorset's unitary councils. The Weymouth branch has six staff and, as I said, caters for those with dementia. The spacious and airy building is perfectly designed for delivering this particular care and Mel is clearly dedicated to her work. The company's MD, Alison Waller, was also in attendance and I much appreciated this kind gesture. After a tour, we chatted for some time about their work, the demand and of course the funding. Then it was back up to Dorchester to meet the Chief Executive of our ambulance trust, Ken Wenman, himself a fully qualified paramedic. His chief of operations, Jess Cunningham, was also there. I had asked for the meeting to not only catch up on all their latest news, but to reassure myself that Swanage would continue to be served with an ambulance and the station retained. I was reassured on both points, although an ambulance can move depending on where it is tasked, clearly. The good news is that Ken has some money to spend, about 60 new vehicles and more than 200 new staff. With the largest area in the country to cope with, he needs all the help he can get.
