The repercussions from the dreadful knife attack in a park in Reading continue to reverberate across the news outlets. A 25 year old man from Syria is in police custody. Three conference calls dominated my day. The first was with trade minister Graham Stuart and farm minister Victoria Prentis. They had released some news about future trade deals which is on my website. The second call was with Sir John Redwood, where we each contributed our thoughts on revitalizing the economy, not least allowing the self-employed to get back on their feet. We are all for lower taxes generally as it is not politicians who create the wealth and prosperity for the country, it's the businessmen and women who do that, often risking a lot to do so. It's our job to create the infrastructure within which they can thrive. As always, John was incisive and knowledgeable. Then at 1700 I dialled into the third conference call this time with tourism minister Nigel Huddleston, who's doing a superb job and keeping in touch with us all. I and many other MPs put the case for holiday parks especially those with shared facilities which fear they will be penalised when restrictions are lifted. The PM is making an announcement tomorrow and it's important he goes as far as he can to get these businesses back on their feet for the summer season.
