Up early at 0645 and out for my regular jaunt around the park. Then into the House and to Committee Room 9 for delegated legislation regarding Mayors and Barnsley! It was not disputed by the Opposition and hence we were out in about 30 minutes. Plenty to get on with during the morning and then a series of votes just before 1500. Then it was off to Room N at PCH to meet schools' minister Nick Gibb. I and many of my colleagues are not happy about the new proposed funding formula for schools. Having campaigned for a fairer share of the cake, the proposed formula would see a number of my primary schools actually lose funding. This is not good news, although the Government makes the point that under the old formula they'd lose more money than under the suggested one, that is currently being consulted on. I spent a good 30 minutes with the minister, comparing figures produced by the National Union of Teachers (NUT) and the Government's. The NUT's takes into account the expected rise in salaries, books and of course inflation, while the Government's figures are binary and simply state whether a school is to receive more or less money from the central pot. This issues will not go away in the short term and many colleagues feel similarly concerned. I and a group of about 7 other MPs are due to see the PM next Wednesday on this.
