In early, through the routine matters, and then on to drafting my speech for the Adjournment Debate in the evening. Working with Dr Alison Cronin, the remarkable CEO of Monkey World in my constituency, I decided to apply for a debate on the vexed question of primates as pets. I and Alison had already delivered a petition with over 100,000 signatories to No 10 a year ago. We were attempting to push the Government to change the law by raising the bar on all those who want to keep monkeys as pets to ensure they had to meet the same standards as zoos and wildlife parks. Regrettably, we did not win that argument, and the Government decided to tighten up on existing legislation instead. My speech is on the website, so I will not expand on it any further here.
