Cancer has sadly claimed another victim, this time the brother-in-law of my caseworker, Hennie Weld. David Caradoc Weld-Davies was only 56 and leaves behind a wife and two young children. The poignant service was held at Harbour View, where only a few weeks ago my family said farewell to my dear mother. It is always interesting listening to the tributes because people and what they have done are always interesting. Perhaps that's the journalist in me. The service was very well attended, with Hennie one of those making a first-class tribute. David's wife, Sophie, and the children, Edie and Seb, were so brave and dignified and afterwards chatted to us all in an airy room adjacent to where the service had been held. One comment from David's best man, Steve Belsham, struck a particular chord with me. Do we appreciate those we love enough, say thank you for what they do and nurture what we have. It's too easy to take family and friends for granted and it's not until something goes wrong that we realise just what that person meant to us. So, when I got home, I sent a WhatsApp message to my four children, to say that I loved them. You can never say that enough, in my humble opinion.
