Up early and into the office before climbing aboard my motorcycle and heading to Swanage. I went straight to the bus deport by the station to meet Morebus MD Andrew Wickham, a most charming man, who'd kindly asked me to launch their new open-top bus service for the summer. The Purbeck Breezers are each worth more than £200,000 and are designed so that the top can be craned off. Each bus has extra on-board features including free WiFi, USB charger points and the latest, very efficient and low polluting engines. The buses will operate on the picturesque 40 and 50 routes and I am sure will be enjoyed by many. Paula Good very kindly took the photos and dealt with all the PR. I then parked up in the main street, chomped on a sandwich and chatted to a kind, elderly gentleman who was collecting for the Salvation Army. I eventually persuaded him to allow me to buy him a coffee as the sun retreated behind some clouds and it really got quite chilly. Then I headed up the hill to visit Swanage Primary School, now under the leadership of Susannah Hill. After speaking to both the Governor of the YOI and the prisons' minister about a dispute at the prison involving violence to officers, I had a chat with Ms Hill and one of her governors. Afterwards, I enjoyed a tour of the school before being grilled by about 30 10 year olds in their hall. What a fun and interesting session it was. They were very inquisitive and asked some excellent questions. I was running late by the time I dropped down to the Conservative Club to meet Cllr Bill Trite, who is standing again in the county council elections next Thursday. He is a quite excellent cllr and knows Swanage backwards. I then spent the afternoon knocking on doors and speaking to residents, which I always enjoy. Eventually headed home in the evening after a long day.
