The day began in dramatic fashion with the resignation of the PM. Mrs May came out of No 10 at 1000 and delivered a short and emotional speech. She will stand down as PM on 7 June. This was a sad moment, but I'm afraid predictable. Mrs May's version of Brexit was simply not Brexit, and now we must find a new leader who can deliver it. While all this was going on, I headed down to Portland to visit Manor Renewable Marine. Formerly Manor Marine, the company has now been taken over and concentrating on renewable energy. The new company is a supplier of generators, vessels and personnel to the offshore renewable sector. The future looks most encouraging and exciting for the company and its 60 employees. I met some of them today and most are local, which is wonderful. Managing Director Eric Briar could not have been more helpful, briefing me on the company and then taking me on a tour. Afterwards, I dropped in on John Figg, a charming member of our Association, who has been suffering from ill health recently. He was in good form and it was nice to catch up with him. A 40 minute bike ride followed as I headed over to Corfe Castle to attend my quarterly meeting with constituency farmers. The meeting lasted some time as there was a lot to discuss. Farmers are worried about the direction of travel, seeing more and more red tape heading their way, not less as frequently promised. I managed to catch up with the main news of the day at 1800. Every channel was raking over Mrs May's resignation and of course there was a lot to say.
