The hunt for the escaped prisoner Daniel Khalife went on, with no confirmed sightings. It does seem extraordinary that he broke out strapped to the underside of a lorry. No doubt many questions are being asked and no doubt heads will roll. The highlight of my busy day was attending the induction of the Reverend Jane Williams as vicar of the Red Post Benefice. For reasons I won't bore you with, I am one of 10 Patrons and, as such, was given the pleasurable duty of presenting Jane to Karen Gorham, the Bishop of Sherborne. St Mary's Church in Sturminster Marshall, where Jane and her family are now based, was packed when the Service began at 1900. I knew several people at the Service, which saw Jane committing to various representatives of the Benefice, including other members of the Deanery Chapter and Synod. After a rather poignant Service, the Bishop handed over to the newly installed Jane, who beamed with pride. Her husband Nigel was also in attendance. Jane and I go back some time as she was the Matron at Swanage Hospital when we all fought to save it from the threatened closure. So, imagine my delight when I learnt that Jane was going for the job, which she will do outstandingly well. In other news, the UK recorded its hottest day of the year so far as temperatures hit 32.6C in parts of England. A police investigation is to be launched into failings that led to dozens of baby deaths and injuries at a hospital trust. And Network Rail admitted health and safety failings over a rail crash that claimed three lives.
