Up early and out for a run on a cold morning. The Christmas fair is well under way in Hyde Park. Dealt with routine matters over a coffee and croissant and then to No 10 to listen to the PM's chief of staff, former MP Gavin Barwell. More than 60 of my colleagues attended this event, which was interesting. Clearly it was confidential, but I can say that we received some interesting feedback on some research work done before and after the election, which took us all by surprise. Then back to PMQs, where the First Secretary, Damian Green, was standing in for the PM. He made a good job of it, seeing off Emily Thornberry, who was standing in for her Marxist boss. Back to the office for a working lunch and then to Committee Room 9 to take part in some delegated legislation, which did not take too long. Being Opposition day, we were on a one-line and I headed to Dorset at about 1700.
