Diary - more jobs as new MacDonalds franchise opens in Weymouth

Friday, 20 May, 2022

A short stint in the office and then down to Portland on my motorbike. First stop was the Port, where I attended one of my regular meetings with CEO Bill Reeves. His tenure has seen the port blossom and the future there looks most encouraging. He'd kindly organised some sandwiches and coffee, so we ate while we chatted through a number of items. Two hours later, I headed to the new MacDonalds franchise at the Gateway Retail Park. There I met franchisee Chris Truscott and Dawn Rondeau, who has taken on the Weymouth Bid. Having never been behind the counter of a fast-food outlet, I was fascinated to see all the modern equipment they now have. Coping with the mounting orders were the busy staff, who seem to have total control of their new environment and were thriving in it. However, Chris told me that finding staff today was a real challenge with many people not prepared to work. Chris already runs two other restaurants and now employs c300 people. He is passionate about his business and is looking forward to the completion of the development at the park which will see many more customers no doubt. I chatted to several constituents there, two of whom tempted me with a milk shake. I managed to refrain, just having enjoyed my sandwiches at the port. The traffic was certainly building as I headed back to the office. Motorbike does make moving about so much easier and quicker.
