After a busy morning, I headed to Kingston Maurward College to meet DEFRA minister George Eustice. I had asked him to come down and address farmers about their concerns, not least about Brexit and other issues, such as TB. Without hesitation, George kindly said he would and more than 40 farmers much appreciated his clear address and knowledge. A farmer himself, George has got an excellent grip on his brief and he spoke without notes, answering every wide-ranging query confidently. The session lasted about two hours and the debate ranged around future Government policy, environmental plans, TB, organic farming and GM food. Dorset county chairman James Cossins chaired the meeting, at the end of which we all tucked into some delicious sandwiches and orange juice. Much needed by then. George then shot off to meet other MPs before heading back to London where a newborn son awaits. My thanks to college Principal Luke Rake, who was there for the first part of the event. He is doing an outstanding job at the college. Plenty more constituency work in the afternoon and then home.
