Out for an early morning run and far cooler now, thankfully. The race for the leadership of our Party took a step nearer to deciding the winner when the pack went from three to two. Penny Mordaunt came third in the ballot, leaving Liz Truss and Rishi Sunak to face our Members over the next six weeks. Meanwhile, Boris Johnson attended his last PMQs as PM. Yet again, some MPs could not refrain from being just plain vile. What an unpleasant bunch they are. Mr Johnson did well at the Despatch Box, using his customary zeal and humour to counter the nastiness. At the end of PMQs, Boris was given a standing ovation, with Theresa May refusing to join in. Rather typical and petty. Afterwards, I joined the PM in his parliamentary office with a few other MPs to say our private farewells. Then I gave my parliamentary team lunch, thanking them for all their hard work. I am most fortunate to have the team I do. At 1300, I voted for Liz Truss in the ballot and, as I've said, she came in the top two and now heads off to meet our Members around the country over the next six weeks. Meanwhile, the NI Protocol Bill came to a conclusion at Third Reading and now goes to the Lords. The House is on a one line whip tomorrow, so I headed home on my motorbike through wind and rain, although the latter hardly seemed to have any effect it's so dry.
