A busy morning and back to the Commons. A taxi protest in Parliament Sq didn't help matters! They are protesting against Transport for London's plans on various road improvements and cycle lanes and are venting their feelings by blockading the Square on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. It's a funny week, a week the House is meant to be on recess. Instead we are pushing through a number of delegated laws that is normally done in committees. These laws are needed in the event we leave the EU with no deal. Today there was an urgent question regarding UK nationals returning from Syria. The UQ follows the debate revolving around 19 year old Shamima Begum, who left the UK to join ISIS four years ago and now wants to return home to have a baby. I caught the Speaker's eye to ask how many more of these fighters - male or female - would be coming back to the UK and how many were being followed by our security services. The Home Secretary did not answer the latter part of my question, but did say that hundreds of UK citizens who'd gone to fight for ISIS had already returned. Clearly they create a substantial threat to our security, as does this young woman. As I understand it, the law states she can come back, but will face an investigation and possible prosecution if found guilty of committing crimes. Votes were held on two of the debates and the House finished its business at about 2000. And let's not forget Labour's woes. MPs Luciana Berger, Chuka Umanna, Chris Leslie, Angela Smith, Gavin Shuker, Ann Coffey and Mike Gapes have all resigned from the Labour Party and formed their own independent group. It's been coming for a while now, pushed by their former leader's Marxist ideology, stance on Brexit and anti-Semitism, to name but a few of the gripes they have. There are strong rumours others might follow, including one or two of ours. I do have a lot of sympathy with the seven, indeed, God help our country if Corbyn did ever become the PM. Whether what they've done is wise, or not, is not for me to comment on. I will leave that to the Labour Party.
