Up early on a cold, cold morning. First stop the office and then to my Association office to go through a number of constituency-related matters. At 1230 I was in ASDA doing one of my regular surgeries. One particularly sad case left a marked impression on me, and of course I will do all I can to help. Next, was the official opening of the ice-skating rink, outside Debenhams. Organised by the BID and backed by sponsors, including ASDA, it was a fun event. The Mayor Cllr Kevin Brookes and the Mayoress were there, as were many others, including last year's Mayor, Cllr Richard Kosior. Young Ava Wilson, from Basingstoke, gave an impressive performance on the ice, which was followed by the lovely Milena Benedetto, who performed last year too. Both did brilliantly. The Mayor cut the ribbon and then we all went inside to enjoy a mince pie and glass of bubbly. I said a few words before handing over to Steve Newstead, the BID chairman. The rink is a message that Weymouth is a vibrant town, ready to do business over the Christmas period. Then it was back home, quick change into a suit and out to a fundraising do near Corfe Castle. A most pleasurable event and well attended.
