The dreaded dentist first stop and then into the House. A routine morning, culminating with another session of PMQs. Nothing really to report on it. Out to lunch with some parliamentary colleagues - a change to the normal sandwich - and then back to CR 6 for an evidence session with the European Scrutiny Committee. This time we questioned the former parliamentary under secretary of state for the Department for Exiting the EU, Steve Baker. His evidence was particular damning, I thought. We heard how there was little will in a Remain-orientated Cabinet to actually leave the EU. His Department was frequently ignored and sidelined, leading to the resignations of David Davis and Dominic Raab. Mr Baker praised his Department and officials for doing all they could to prepare for Brexit, but clearly against the odds. We all knew this to be the case, but to hear it from the lion's mouth was sobering, and explains why the Government is in this mess. You can listen to this evidence session on the parliamentary channel. We were put on a one-line whip late afternoon. after which I headed to Dorset.
