First to Wareham to sign a new lease for my caseworker and then to HQs Aster Housing nearby. There I met the charming Amanda Williams, who gave me a useful briefing on their role. The organisation has responsibility for about 30,000 homes and much of my work revolves around housing, so this meeting was most useful. Then back to SDCA HQs to meet and chat with Bridget Betts, who did run the Dorset Coast Forum (DCF) but has now moved on to the county council. The DCF is an independent, non-political coastal partnership whose area reaches from Lyme Regis to Christchurch. It has 1,000 members from over 260 organisations, with members coming from the public, charity and private sectors, including local authorities, fishing representatives, commercial business, environmental, recreational, historical, maritime, business and tourism sectors. It was fascinating to hear all that Amanda and her team does for Dorset. Off then to the council offices for one of my regular surgeries. Then, on the way out of Weymouth, I popped in to say farewell and thank you to Westfield Arts College headteacher Andrew Penman. He is retiring and his school and the education system as a whole are the losers. He is a superb headteacher and I will miss him.
