It's definitely getting colder and damper. Certainly if felt that way on my morning run. After scouring the papers and talking to my team here, I headed to CR 16 for another session of our Defence Committee. Today, we posed questions to industry representatives on some of the overarching themes of defence procurement as well as to explore issues relating to specific aviation capabilities. There were two panels. On the first were Ian Muldowney, Chief Operating Officer, BAE Systems Air and Sir Kevin Leeson, Director of Military Affairs, Airbus UK. On the second were Anna Keeling, Managing Director, Boeing Defence UK and Paul Livingston, CEO, Lockheed Martin UK. It was a most interesting two hours, which can be seen on Parliament TV. After lunching with an old friend, I took two phone calls from constituents. Another virtual meeting to judge Christmas cards was cancelled. At 1630, I joined colleagues at our weekly and private gathering to discuss events. Always interesting. Then at 1800 I went to CR 20 to attend a private meeting of the ERG. Again, always interesting. Later, I and my wife joined a very excitable crowd in a local pub to watch England beat poor old Wales 3-0. Marcus Rashford scored twice. Depressingly, the Royal College of Nursing said that a host of leading hospitals would be affected in next month's nurse strikes. Meanwhile, Ukraine's first lady received a standing ovation after urging the UK to lead the way in the creation of a special international tribunal to prosecute Russia for aggression against her nation - as she stressed that "just to stop the war is really the first step". And a man was arrested in the UK in connection with the deaths of at least 27 people who drowned while trying to cross the English Channel in a dinghy last year. About time we caught up with these thugs.
