It was inevitable, I suppose, that my battle with a vanilla ice cream yesterday in Weymouth was going to appear somewhere in the papers today, and it did. It caused much merriment with family and friends and I hope put a smile on some people's faces. With the good news that Dorset County Hospital will receive the much needed funding - £62.5 million - for a new A&E centre and Care Hub. I continued battling for Phil Say at the Pavilion as I followed up on our visit on Tuesday with Jacob Rees-Mogg. Phil and his team do a fantastic job at the Pavilion, which is a treasure for many in the community. Outside the constituency, the families of those who died in the Manchester Arena attack gave emotional statements to a court where the bomber's brother is awaiting sentencing. Hashem Abedi is facing a two-day sentencing hearing for the murder of 22 people in the 2017 terror attack but refused to leave his cell. Family members broke down in tears as they spoke about their grief and how "life will never be the same". Further trouble in the education arena, with the exam board Pearson pulling its Btec results on the eve of releasing them. This will affect nearly half a million UK pupils. Pearson said it would be re-grading all its Btecs to bring them in line with A-levels and GCSEs, which are now being graded via school-based assessments. Finally, it rained all day. We do need it, though.
