It seems the debate on whether or not to wear face coverings is leading to some confusion. On the Andrew Marr show today, Michael Gove said he does not think face coverings should be compulsory in shops in England, saying he trusted people's common sense. But, he added that wearing a mask in a shop was "basic good manners". On Friday, Boris Johnson declared a "stricter" approach was needed, so people wear masks in confined spaces. Mr Gove went on to defend his plans for new post-Brexit border infrastructure after Labour said the government was unprepared. A £705 million funding package to help manage Britain's borders has been announced as the UK prepares to leave the EU customs union at the end of the year. Mr Gove insisted the government had been "laying the groundwork for months". In Covid news, up to 200 workers were told to self-isolate on the farm where they pick crops after 73 of them tested positive for the virus. Vegetable producers A S Green and Co, in Herefordshire, went into lock-down after the positive tests. Finally, Florida has registered a state record of 15,299 new coronavirus cases in 24 hours - around a quarter of all of the United States' daily infections. The state, with just 7 per cent of the US population, surpassed the previous daily record held by California. Donald Trump appeared wearing a mask in public for the first time after previously casting doubt on their usefulness.
