At 1730 I left home and headed to Portland. I left myself plenty of time as I did not want to be late for the annual Civic Christmas Service at the Methodist Church in Easton Square. The Rev Chris Briggs, the Methodist Minister, was in charge, although I understand the order of Service was largely down to the Mayor, Cllr Sandy West. VIPs included Jeremy Pope and the High Sheriff and his wife. Cllr Richard Kosior, the Mayor of Weymouth & Portland, was also present, along with his delightful wife and Mayoress Caroline. And what a programme there was for us. It included carols, choirs, crooners, Captain Scarlett and handheld puppets. Even 'Twelve Days of Christmas' was shared out to the congregation, with yours truly being entrusted with '11 pipers piping'! The Service whistled past as we all enjoyed the huge variety and charm of a Christmas gathering to be remembered. Afterwards, we all gathered in the adjacent hall for a welcome cuppa.
