Another very warm day. With the Bank Holiday in full swing, reports came back of packed beaches. With dozens of firefighters still in Wareham Forest, I headed out again to see how they all were. Armed with scores of Mars Bars from Bere Regis garage, I drove down to the incident control point (ICP) to meet the senior office in command. Today, it was Andy Cole, who I'd met earlier in the week. After briefing me outside his command wagon, we drove on to the site in his 4x4 and went as far east as we could. Having already been shown the extent of the blaze by Fire Chief Ben Ansell on Thursday, I was staggered how much further it had gone after re-igniting. Again, firefighters, aided by a helicopter and bucket, had done the most remarkable job in preventing it from spreading too far.
