An early rise, quick breakfast and across to Dorchester on my motorcycle to meet Tri-Council CEO Matt Prosser at South Walks House for one of our regular catch-ups. As it happened, Matt had to attend another meeting, so I chatted to Stephen Hill, Martin Hamilton and Cllr Jeff Cant, talking through a range of issues, such as the regeneration of Weymouth, the new unitary authority and home building. After a most informative hour, I headed to Dorchester to talk about some of the more macro issues such as a western relief road, rail infrastructure and investment in our area. Oliver Letwin was there, too, very supportive and helpful. We also had Bill Reeves, the CEO of Portland Port, and Cllr Rebecca Knox, the leader of the new shadow council. Again, much was discussed, all of it positive. Where there's a will, there's a way. Back on to my bike and across to Trigon, near Wareham, where we held our next farm quarterly meeting, hosted kindly by landowner Giles Sturdy. There was a record turn-out, and we found ourselves discussing the newly published Agriculture Bill over some rather good sandwiches. These meetings are most useful and I established them some years ago in order for farmers to have a conduit through which they could pass on their concerns and questions. It works well.
