Unsurprisingly, we heard that the Chancellor had cancelled the Autumn budget and was instead preparing to deal with the economic situation due to the fall out of a rise in Coronavirus cases. He is also considering plans for a replacement of the current furlough scheme which is due to end in October. Coronavirus cases have now passed 6000 new infections in one day which is back up to the levels displayed earlier in the year. That's not surprising with schools and universities back and more people returning to work. Having not been selected for PMQs, I watched it on TV before heading to the Chamber to take part in the Oversea Operations Bill, which is designed to better protect our brave Armed Forces from unscrupulous lawyers and endless false allegations. I had put in to speak and to my amazement found myself No 15 on the list. My speech is on the website. Both the Secretary of State and Minister made good speeches, the latter's upsetting Labour members. I had time to attend the tail-end of a conference call with Dorset's Chief Constable and P&CC, Martyn Underhill. There was one vote at 1900 and then to Warwick to join my daughter before a visit to Corsham tomorrow with the Defence Select Committee.
