Having just returned from Moldova and Ukraine, it was depressing to read that both were facing widespread blackouts after the latest wave of Russian strikes. Although the former is not at war with Russia, a large amount of power comes via Ukraine, which, if bombed, affects them too. What a monster Putin is. I began my day with a run in the rain. It's a most pleasurable experience and I've always enjoyed the sensation. Into the House and I knuckled down to prepare for my short contribution on the future of farming, to be held in Westminster Hall. I dropped down to the Chamber to watch PMQs, where the PM trounced Starmer in a most satisfying manner. He also dealt with the SNP very well, too, they feeling aggrieved (just for a change) at the Supreme Court's decision that another referendum needed the UK government's consent. We all knew that, but it was a relief that the court came to the same conclusion. Of course, that will not prevent Sturgeon from banging on and on and on about independence, which would only lead to poverty and despair for the good people of Scotland. Lunch with a colleague and then to Westminster Hall for the debate which began at 1430. You can see my contribution on the website. Afterwards, I enjoyed a catch-up and a cuppa with the charming Baroness Foster. She is a star. Four votes came at 1830 on the Levelling Up Bill and then back to Dorset in wind and rain.
