It was back to the beach this morning to meet Ian Wilson from the National Trust (NT) to further discuss the emotive issue of replacing the Middle Beach Cafe with a new building. Local parish councillors Nick Boulter and Peter Hammond joined us, as did Paul Brown, the current tenant running the cafe. Residents do not want the existing cafe replaced, arguing that money should be spent on sea defences, giving the cafe another 20-30 years' life. We had a long an exhaustive chat which did not really solve the problem. Residents are due to meet the NT's deputy chairman at the end of this month and that might progress things a little. I can see both sides of the argument clearly and the final decision will have to be taken by an NT Trustee, I would have thought. Back to the office to work on a mass of constituency matters.
