A mixed bag today. I found myself heavily involved in talks with HeliOps and HMP The Verne, both on Portland, and with Monkey World, the ape rescue centre near Wool. The first had an issue that required a letter from me to resolve, which I was more than happy to do, while at the prison, the local paper wanted my comment now that it's up and running as a prison, rather than an immigration centre. As always, the Governor, David Bourne, was most helpful and briefed me on how things were going. Yes, the prison re-opened in July and is now coping with its first tranche of prisoners. As work continues, more prisoners will be moved there until by the spring of next year the prison will once again be full. I am delighted that the Government is investing there as the prison provides many important jobs. I am always delighted to help the charming Dr Alison Cronin, who does so much good work saving these wonderful animals.
