What a tremendous day! Another step towards shaking off the EU's shackles as the Prime Minister triggered Article 50 in a letter to President Tusk. After some physio and an early session of our European Scrutiny Committee to ensure we were all in the Chamber to hear Mrs May at 1230, I dropped down to book my seat before Prayers. Then at midday we sat through PMQs, in which Mr Corbyn decided to break his six questions into two parts. Again, he did not ruffle any of Mrs May's feathers and she was in full flow when she stood up to make the Statement on Article 50. The PM spoke well, reaching out to both sides of the debate and calling for national unity. The SNP, as always, moaned and chuntered their way through the Statement, living in their own embittered world, sadly, with the future of the UNITED Kingdom the last thing on their minds. It's a tragedy, actually. The poor PM was kept in the Chamber answering questions from MPs for about three hours. I did catch the Speaker's eye and added my support to the PM's resolute approach, reminding the House that the reason we were triggering Article 50 was to regain control of our destiny, with all our rules and regulations being made on these islands and not by unaccountable bureaucrats in Brussels. Back to my office for a short while before three votes and then into CR 14 to listen to the PM address the 1922 Committee. She rightly received a rapturous welcome and after speaking for about 10 minutes headed back to No 10. She'd already answered quite enough questions for one day! An exciting and momentous day for our country and one that lifts the spirits. Onwards and upwards.
