The repercussions of the PM's speech on the EU continue to spread far and wide. My weekly column in the local paper - which is on my website - I think makes it clear where I stand on this issue and have done from the start. I worked through the morning, my correspondence including a congratulatory letter to both the new Chief Constable Debbie Simpson and the recently elected Police and Crime Commissioner, Martyn Underhill. I also drafted and sent a long letter to the organisation concerned in a serious matter involving the two constituents I mentioned in yesterday's diary. I am keeping the matter confidential for obvious reasons. I then headed to Portland for my regular surgery and met a number of constituents with a range of problems. After a couple of hours, I travelled to Littlemoor to meet a lady who had kindly written, thanking me for the part I played in getting the street lights switched back on. I must say that I was among a number of people who helped in this regard, not least the police and county council. The poor lady had been pretty shaken when a car was torched nearby, but was reassured to hear the police were taking a very pro-active stance on recent anti-social behaviour there. Why should a mindless minority ruin it for the decent majority? Back to the office for an hour and then out to dinner with some old friends.
