Today, with seven days to go, the Prime Minister will be in the East Midlands where he’ll unveil our action plan for the first 100 days of a majority Government – contrasting it with the gridlock and uncertainty that would follow the election of a hung parliament on 12 December.
The first 100 days of a Conservative majority Government would see the passing of the Prime Minister’s Brexit deal, a Queen’s Speech to introduce key domestic legislation covering law and order and health and a post Brexit Budget to take advantage of the opportunities before us. By the 22 March, we will have taken the following actions:
- Changing the law to end the automatic release of serious violent and sexual offenders at the half way point.
- Launching the biggest review of our defence, security and foreign policy since the end of the Cold War.
- Legislating for a funding increase to our schools – raising minimum funding per pupil.
- Changing the law to increase the amount that migrants pay to use our NHS.
- Beginning cross party talks to find an enduring solution to the challenge of social care.
- Finalising an agreement with mobile phone operators to improve mobile service in the countryside.
With Corbyn, we will have the nightmare of a hung Parliament; 2020 will be the year of two chaotic referendums on Brexit and Scottish Independence creating more uncertainty. Nothing else will happen. We believe the British people should choose to go forwards and not return to the nightmare of a broken hung Parliament.
That’s why, these are the key points to remember on the doorstep:
This election is happening because a gridlocked and broken Parliament refused to respect the referendum result – or let the Government govern.
The choice is between a majority government that can act or another paralysed hung Parliament that cannot.
A Conservative majority government will:
- Get Brexit done
- 50,000 more nurses and record investment in the NHS
- 20,000 more police and tougher sentences
- Invest in education, technology, and infrastructure to drive opportunity and prosperity
- Keep our economy strong and debt low
- Take back control of immigration with an Australian-style points system
Or a hung Parliament stuck in neutral with more of the same indecision and uncertainty we have had for the last three years meaning:
- Corbyn as Prime Minister propped up by Nicola Sturgeon
- Two more chaotic referendums on Brexit and Scotland
- A reckless economic policy that takes us back to square one – with higher debt and taxes you will pay for
Every vote counts, and the Conservatives only need 9 more seats to win a majority government that will:
- Stop the chaos
- End the uncertainty
- Get Brexit done
- Unleash Britain’s potential
Jeremy Corbyn is soft on crime, and a new report has shown that Labour’s policy to scrap prison sentences of under six months would lead to a surge of offenders on our streets, risking public safety. Based on the most recent official data, under Corbyn’s Labour:
- Almost 40,000 fewer criminals would have gone to prison last year.
- 8 in 10 of those sentenced for knife crime last year would avoid prison – with 1,200 more offenders remaining on our streets.
- More than 8 in 10 convicted thieves would avoid prison – meaning nearly 500 fewer thieves jailed last year.
- More than 9 in 10 would-be burglars would avoid prison – with 268 fewer criminals jailed.
- Prison sentences for possession of dangerous drugs would be all but abolished. Only 65 criminals would have faced jail last year – just 1 per cent of those convicted for drugs offences.
On the other hand, a Conservative majority government will keep people safe with 20,000 new police officers, 10,000 more prison places and a new Sentencing Bill. Unlike Labour, we trust our judges and magistrates to use their sentencing powers appropriately, and we will always provide the prison places needed to hold those sentenced by the courts.
