After a lengthy battle, my colleague Anne McIntosh has been deselected from her safe seat in North Yorkshire, where I lived for some five years as a cub reporter on the local paper. Mrs McIntosh is currently the chairman of the Efra Select Committee, of which I am a member, a role she executes professionally, diligently and intelligently. I do not want to get into the intimate details of Mrs McIntosh's position, as I don't know them, but a colleague, vulnerable and alone, and one who has treated me, personally, courteously, encourages the judicious side of my nature to say something, which I have done. Finally, I would also like to highlight her statement following her deselection, which, again, is courteous and loyal to a fault, when inside she must be extremely upset.
