Today was polling day. It began very early, I met our team in Weymouth at 0530 for our dawn raid. We distributed the reminder to as many homes as we could in four hours. Afterwards, I had a session with the doctor to remove some stitches. Later in the afternoon, I headed to Portland to visit the polling stations and thank the staff. As it turned out, they were frantic. Huge numbers were voting, a good sign that so many people were engaged in this debate. I could not resist visiting the Coastwatch station and chatting to the two watchkeeprs. They are all the most charming group of volunteers, very professional and motivated. I visited several stations before heading home for something to eat. I was starved. An hour's kip and then down to Weymouth Pavilion for the count. This was far more simple that a general election and we finished at about 0130. We took 61 per cent of the votes, which was a great relief. Then home to watch it all happen on television.
