After a stint in the office, I headed to Nottington to meet residents who are opposed to a proposed development of 30 homes on land just up the hill from them. I met about five campaigners at Henryk Matysiak's home, which is near the river. Their concerns are that housing on this land will not only cause more flooding, but will spoil the countryside in which they live. There is also a covenant on the land which does not allow for development. I was told the land was a former orchard. New homes are inevitably controversial if they are built near you. Their arguments against this development are good ones and they are doing all they can to get this message out, not least to the planning committee which will decide the application. I spent some time talking to the campaigners and chatting about the courses of action open to them. Afterwards, it was back to Winfrith for several meetings. These took much longer than expected and it was getting dark when I headed back to the office.
